My Most Popular Christmas Songs
If you are a music person–which you probably are if you are reading my blog–you might be on the hunt for the perfect Christmas song for your children's choir or family to sing–we are in the "BER" months, after all. Today I'm sharing some of my Christmas songs in order of popularity with some insider information about each one. I am extra excited to look at this list a year from now and see where our newest Christmas song, "Sing for the King" fits in this list. We can't wait to share it with you on October 12th. (You can watch the video HERE.)
Number One: Born to Bring Us Joy
I wrote this song last year after one of my favorite friends had a particular request for an upbeat Christmas song. Born to Bring Us Joy features a familiar melody that seems like it's always been with us, words that are simple but profound, and a message that is pulled together in the bridge of the song: Like the angels and star that testified that night, I will sing and I will shine so all can come to Christ. If you haven't tried this one with your children yet, I assure you it will be a huge hit.

Number Two: When We Seek Him
"When We Seek Him" was written with one of my most respected friends, Shawna Edwards. I learned so much working with her, and I absolutely love how our song turned out. The message of this song is so unique and special–it's definitely not your "typical" wisemen song. Most of my contribution went into the lyrics and video. Every syllable and every word was penned with precision, and I am especially proud of how the words turned out. Shawna tackled most of the music and worked with Daniel Blomberg on the arrangement until it was just right. It turned out so beautiful. If you haven't given it a listen, now is the perfect time!

Number Three: If I Were There
When one of my besties, Monica Scott, approached me and asked if I would write another Christmas song with her, I was delighted! My favorite part of "If I Were There" is the beautiful piano accompaniment; we had so much fun going back and forth until every note was exactly what we wanted. The lyrics and message of this song are simple: if I were there on that silent night, what would I see? What would I notice? What would I do? And even though I wasn't there, I can still testify of Christ's birth. We hope you love this one as much as we do!

Number Four: Shine
Coming in at number four is my song called "Shine." I adore this song! The chorus is simple and easy to pick up, the verses are filled with beautiful imagery and a fun rhyme scheme, and the bridge ties the song together–as a good bridge does. The song starts with some of the most playful lyrics I've ever written: When staring at the starry sky/That winks and blinks within the night/I wonder if I see the light/That marked the Savior's birth. When you watch the video keep an eye out for the beautiful shadow box my dad helped me make (let's be realistic: he made the whole thing while I swept the shop. 😉)

Number Five: I'll Give My Love
Have you ever wondered what you would give Jesus if you had visited Him as a baby? I know I have! Even today, what could I ever give to the King of Kings? Interestingly enough, Jesus has never asked us for much more than to follow Him, love God, and love others. I also have to share the most adorable illustrations my cute teenage neighbor created to go with this song–I've been hiring her to create illustrations for me for several years now, and it has been so much fun to see her talent grow every year. You can watch the lyric video with her work HERE and download the illustrations or coloring pages free on my website.

Number Six: Wonderful One
"Wonderful One" is different than the others because it's NOT a children's song–shocking! I know. This beautiful song is incredibly touching and performed so beautifully. McKay and Hannah, the vocalists on the song, were teenagers when we recorded and filmed. We used to live in their neighborhood, and it was so much fun to have them sing in our church services. Now, Hannah is married and McKay just joined a very prestigious acapella group. I'm so proud of both of them!
